DUCKS FALL TO CARTHAGE COUGARS IN SEMI'S; 4-3, 5-3 |
|
Taylor Coach Doug Kuhl and his Ducks were eliminated from the State AAA UIL playoffs Saturday as the Carthage Cougars followed Thursday's 4-3 upset with a 5-3 victory that sent Taylor home for the season. Junior pitcher Jordan Stefek (above) couldn't find an answer faste enough in the 4th inning as the Cougars erased an early 3-0 Taylor lead with fours runs on five hits and one error that proved costly. Taylor tried to bounce back, but Cougar pitching ace Michael Burchett shut down every attempt, including a bases loaded jam with no outs. The Ducks stranded several runners on the bases as they failed to get a clutch two-hit after the opening inning. Saturday, it was more of the same as Taylor couldn't hold an early lead and junior Sam Jirasek was upset in a 5-3 loss. Taylor senior Eric Brooks (11-1) was not able to pitch in the series due to an injury. The two losses dropped Taylor's season mark to 26-8-1. Below, Jirasek clubs and RBI double in Thursday's game as the Ducks rolled up a 3-0 lead after two outs. Stefek, Jirasek and Tyler Volek all banged out back-to-back doubles and David Rodriguez added an RBI single to finish the scoring. (Photos by Larry Robbins) |
