LADY DUCKS BOUNCE NAVASOTA; 6-0 |
|
Coach Melvin Jenkins' Lady Ducks softball squad jumped back on the offensive Tuesday with a 6-0 shutout over the Navasota Lady Rattlers here at "The Pond." The win ups Taylor's District 24-AAA mark to 6-4 or tied with Cameron's Lady Yoe for 3rd place in the league standings. Madisonville at 8-2 leads the way, while Rockdale is just back at 7-3. The Lady Ducks play at Caldwell Friday before closing league play next Tuesday with Rockdale. Brianna Yanez went 3-for-4 for the Lady Ducks as Tera Eulenfeld, Megan Matuke and Brandie Walls each added two hits to Taylor's offensive attack. 3 LADY DUCKS EARN STATE TRACK BIDS |
|
Coach Shelli Cobb and her Lady Ducks track team continued to impress the opposition last week as they earned three berths at the upcoming UIL State Track Meet to be held in Austin, June 5-6th. According to Cobb, the girls had a great showing at the Regional Track Meet in Humble. Chasity Douglas is no stranger to the state track meet and will make her third appearance in the discus. Chasity easily out-threw the competition to become the regional champion. The closest competitor to her was over 7 feet away! She will compete on Friday, June 5th at 5pm.
Stephanie Zachary will experience the state meet for the first time as she jumped from 10th to 2nd place in the shot put on her final throw of the prelims. That throw held up as she finished the competition as the Regional runner-up. She will compete at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 6th at the state meet.
Kelsey Marek will also see her first state meet appearance as she came from behind in a strong finish in the 300 M Hurdles to become the regional runner-up. Cobb felt that if Kelsey would have had about two more meters, she would have claimed the number one spot as she was clearly running down the Cameron girl in the home stretch. She will run at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 6th at the state meet.
"All three girls are seniors and have chosen a great way to put their stamp on their final season," said Cobb. "We are so proud of these girls, as well as the ones who came up a just short of qualifying for State." |
