DUCKS AMBUSHED BY TIGERS; 57-14 |

Coach Rick Cobia and his Fighting Taylor Ducks took a 7-6 1st quarter lead, but the visiting Rockdale Tigers showed their playoff grit with 24-2nd period points in a 57-14 ambush of the Ducks on Senior Night at Memorial Field. The Ducks' defense was hurt by injuries prior to the game and the Tigers took full advantage as they struck for three TD passes of 15, 15, and 19 yards in the 2nd period and four TD runs (79, 26, 58, 94) in the 3rd quarter. The Ducks took the early lead on a 15-yard pass from Ricky Cobia to TE Samuel Jirasek and HB Jacob Doss added the final score with a 2-yard run mid way through the final quarter. The Ducks finished 4-6 on the season as the Tigers finished finished 7-3 and took 3rd place in loop 24-AAA behind district champion Caldwell and runner-up Navasota. |

THS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS PREP FOR DISTRICT |

After an impressive year so far, with a team victory at the Gatesville Invitational and a strong showing at Georgetown River Run, Taylor's Cross Country team, coached by Shelli Cobb, heads toward their district meet in Cameron. The District Meet will be held on October 24, and with a victory, the team will qualify for Regionals in Humble on November 7. The past weekend, the boys were led by medalists Jordan Kiewit, captain Jeff Carpenter, Stephen Svatek and Elric Martinez. Coach Shelli Cobb says he been quite pleased with both the boys and the girls cross country teams this year. "I thought we were in a for a major rebuilding season," said Cobb. "Now I think we are going to be alright. The kids are really putting it together and working hard." |

DUCK SWIMMERS TOP BEST TIMES |

Taylor Duck Swimming had their first meet of the year, last week in Round Rock, according to Swim Coach Gloria Schuldt. They competed against LBJ & Round Rock High School. "Going into the meet, we knew we were competing against two fast 5A & 4A schools, but the team swam great," said Schuldt. The THS Boys 200 Free Relay Team of Charles Kemp, Noah Kopit, Corey Terwilliger, Seth Harvey, continued from last year's best times, and broke their previous record time with a 1:58.58, almost a second faster.
Taylor Robichaux had the best swim of the team, taking off 6 seconds in the 100 freestyle for a new time of 1:31.27. "We had 80% best times at this meet," said Schuldt. "Duck swimming is off to a great year."
This past weekend, the Ducks competed at Austin's Capital City Invitational at UT. Results will follow soon! |

THS SCHEDULES TAKS RETESTS |

Taylor High School counselors have announced that they will be holding the TAKS retests on the following dates. Students should come to school rested and be prepared as always. The tests will be as follows: Tuesday (Oct 20): English / Language Arts; Wednesday (Oct 21): Math; Thursday (Oct 22): Science and Friday (Oct 23): Social Studies.
