MARK JACKSON RANKED #1 IN THE NATION

Taylor Track & Field coach Mike Tennill has reported that senior Mark Jackson's winning leap of 50'-4" in the Triple Jump at last week's Rockdale Relays moved him to No. 1 in the nation in that event among high school athletes. The defending state champ's effort broke the meet record by almost two feet.

Mark also established a new school record in the Long Jump with an outstanding effort of 23'-3" and that jump moved him into 2nd place in the nation in that event.

Jackson is headed to Boston, Massachusetts this weekend to compete in a National Invitation Indoor Track Meet in both events. He will not be allowed to represent THS.

CAMERON SPOILS DUCKS' WIN STREAK

The District 24-AAA baseball race began in Taylor with a BANG Wednesday night, but it was the Ducks that were on the receiving end of a 16-8 loss to the talented Cameron Yoemen (4-3).

The Ducks (8-3) clubbed 12 hits, but committed 5 errors as Cody Alderete (1-2) took the hill at Krueger Field.  Coach Doug Kuhl went to his bullpen often as the Ducks fell behind 10-1 after 2 innings.

The loss stopped the Ducks' 8-game winning streak and sends them into a busy weekend.  They travel to Llano today for two games, are at home Friday for a 24-AAA encounter with Madisonville and then head back to Llano for more games Saturday.

THS BOYS SOCCER BEAT GIDDINGS; 3-0

Taylor Boys Soccer Coach Casey Shuck has his team within one win of its first State UIL playoff bid following Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Giddings at Memorial Field.

The Ducks travel to LaGrange on Friday and a repeat of their 1st half victory over the Leopards would be wildly celebrated. A win over LaGrange would also give the Ducks their second three-game winning streak of the year.

The public is invited to drop by the playground at 2500 North Drive and take a look at all of the work completed by Josh's volunteer effort.
