Taylor ISD received three top honors at the MASBA: School Board Members for Latino Equity Annual Conference (formerly known as the Mexican American School Board Association), including Outstanding English Language Learner Initiative and Outstanding School Board.
At the conference’s closing awards gala, Board President and Master Trustee Marco Ortiz was named incoming President of the organization’s Board of Directors, recognizing his leadership and advocacy for Texas students.
The Dual Language Program earned statewide recognition for its innovative bilingual education model, which provides instruction in both English and Spanish while celebrating students’ cultural heritage. Serving more than 130 students in Pre-K through fifth grade, the program has achieved measurable success, including 100% of kindergarten students reading at or above benchmark in Spanish. Families play an active role through bilingual design sessions shaping curriculum, cultural events, and program priorities.
The Taylor ISD Board of Trustees was recognized for visionary leadership and student-centered governance. With 80 combined years of service, the Board has guided transformative initiatives, including an agreement with Samsung that expanded STEM and Career & Technical Education programs and created new career pathways for students.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the conference featured a district art exhibition showcasing student work from across the state. Taylor High School submitted three pieces, and student Amia Vega earned second place, highlighting her creativity and artistic talent.
“It is an honor for Taylor ISD to be recognized at this conference,” said Board President Marco Ortiz. “These awards are a testament to the district’s commitment to providing innovative programs and opportunities that help every student thrive. We’re proud of our students, initiatives, and the bright future ahead for Taylor ISD.”
“These recognitions reflect the heart of our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen. “They represent the hard work of our educators, the leadership of our trustees, and the support of our families and community, all united in helping every student succeed.”
Taylor ISD remains dedicated to providing innovative, inclusive, and empowering educational experiences for all learners, continuing to build a district where every student can thrive.
