Mr. Jason Angco-Barrera

Theatre Arts/Technical Theatre
UIL One Act Play Director/CTE Audio-Video

Biography:

Jason Angco-Barrera was born and raised in Laredo, TX. He entered the theatre world in
his senior year of high school. From there he fell in love with the world of performing arts.

After graduation, he applied to Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor's of Arts
in Acting. He was in multiple plays during his tenure at Texas State. He also worked on lights,
set design, and make-up during his time there.

Once receiving his Bachelor's, Jason moved back home to Laredo where he worked as a Stage
Manager, Actor, and Technician for the Lilia Martinez Performing Arts Center. This inspired him
to further his education in the world of theatre. So, he applied at the University of Texas Pan American
where he concentrated on Directing and Writing. He earned his Master of Arts in Theatre three years later.

While at UTPA, Jason wrote original plays that were produced by the Latino Theatre Initiative. He also
starred in shows such as, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," "Life's A Dream," "Over the River
and Through the Woods," "Arsenic and Old Lace," and the film "Waiting for Sandoval." The world of film also
became important during his time at UTPA, starring in over a dozen student films and one major production.

He moved back to Laredo, TX upon graduating and he started his teaching tenure at Martin High School.
After three years of teaching, he moved to Atlanta, GA and pursued an advanced degree in film and television.
At the Savannah College of Art and Design, Jason began to grow his film resume. Writing and Directing over
ten films, as well as working on shows and films such as "Ant Man and the Wasp," "Good Girls," "Star," "Insatiable,"
and "MacGuyver."

Jason moved back to Texas, to pursue his acting and directing career. Unfortunately, that was during the pandemic
and the world of film shut down. Now, he is back at teaching the things he loves; theatre and film, and he
couldn't be happier at Taylor High School.
