Taylor ISD Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen has successfully completed the highly selective Superintendent Leadership Program through the Holdsworth Center, a prestigious statewide initiative designed to strengthen and support Texas’ top school system leaders.
Over the past 18 months, Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen participated in the rigorous program alongside a cohort of superintendents from across Texas who are either in their first five years in the role or leading large districts. The program focuses on developing advanced leadership skills needed to navigate the complex challenges facing public education in an ever-changing landscape.
“Having exceptional superintendents at the helm of all Texas districts is critical to improving outcomes for students in the face of great headwinds battering public education,” said Dr. Lindsay Whorton, president of The Holdsworth Center. “The diverse skills needed to be an effective superintendent are comparable to a Fortune 500 CEO, but the job doesn’t come with the same opportunities to study the tenets of great leadership or work with an experienced coach.”
Through a series of intensive learning sessions, Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen and her cohort explored critical areas of leadership, including strategic decision-making, systems thinking, and organizational effectiveness, with the goal of strengthening leadership capacity and long-term impact in their districts.
As part of the program, Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen was also paired with an experienced former superintendent serving as a Holdsworth Superintendent-In-Residence. This executive coach provided ongoing mentorship, practical guidance on daily operations, and served as a long-term thought partner to help refine leadership practices and support district-wide growth.
Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen’s completion of the Superintendent Leadership Program represents a significant professional milestone and reflects Taylor ISD’s continued commitment to strong, stable leadership focused on student success and staff support.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this unique program. It has been a significant experience for me both personally and professionally," said Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen. “Connecting with and learning from school communities across Texas has provided valuable insight into leading our district today and strengthening Taylor ISD for the future. This experience sharpened my skillset to continue serving Taylor with excellence, and I'm excited to lead and build on our 1+ work with students, staff, and the broader Taylor community.”
The Holdsworth Center is a non-profit that builds stronger leaders for Texas public schools through world-class leadership programs. Since its founding in 2017, Holdsworth has served more than 1,900 educators in 88 school districts across Texas.
